About Argentina Time

Argentina Time (ART) is three hours behind Coordinated Universal Time and is used throughout Argentina. Despite the country's considerable north-south extent, spanning from the subtropical Chaco region to Tierra del Fuego near Antarctica, Argentina maintains a single time zone. Buenos Aires, the capital and largest city, is the economic and cultural center of the country and the primary city associated with ART.

Argentina shares the same UTC-3 offset as Brasilia Time, which facilitates commerce between Argentina and neighboring Brazil. The country's geographic position would naturally place much of its territory in the UTC-4 zone, but Argentina has chosen to remain at UTC-3, resulting in later sunrises and sunsets relative to solar time. This westward bias in timekeeping is similar to Spain's position within the CET zone.

Argentina has a complex history with daylight saving time, having adopted and abandoned it numerous times since first implementing it in 1930. The most recent use of DST was from 2007 to 2009, during an energy crisis. Since 2009, Argentina has not observed DST, keeping ART at UTC-3 year-round. The San Luis province briefly maintained its own time zone but has since rejoined ART.
